I had missed several chances to watch him play in-person. "There will be plenty of time," I told myself. After all, the man was in his prime. Years have passed since.
Novak Djokovic ascended into the top 20 world tennis rankings in 2007. The one thing that jumped out the first time I saw him play on TV was his unusual hairstyle. Back then, we joked that he asks for the porcupine special when getting a haircut.
After all these years, one thing is certain: his game is no joke. The man managed to carve out a spot on the Mount Rushmore of tennis while battling against two players who are also on Mount Rushmore!
After he won the Australian Open earlier this year, I told myself that this has to be the year I go watch him play. The first tournament that came to mind was the Miami Open. I went on SeatGeek and bought two tickets for the March 27th evening session. We were going to be in Miami the whole weekend. It would be our first trip away from baby Ace.
My wife also likes to watch tennis and she was going to visit one of her closest friends who was expecting a baby second week of March. Baby Ace was going to spend the weekend with his grandparents. It was a win-win-win kind of trip.
By now, as you could have guessed, the tennis tournament and the trip to Miami had to be cancelled. Corona virus is on the verge of paralyzing the whole US like it did Italy. Novak and his wife announced today that they are donating one million euros worth of ventilators and medical equipment to Serbia to help with the pandemic.
When SeatGeek was ready to refund me the money I spent on the tickets, they offered a refund or a credit plus $45.
I decided to take the credit.
To Be Continued...
Sorry you didn't get to go. Hope it works out later.
