I suppose it could be a poker reference. For a starting hand that includes an ace and a low second card. If the two cards are suited, maybe we can start calling it a toddler ace?
We all have heard of an ace in golf. When a golfer uses only a single shot to play a hole, we say that the golfer got an ace. Maybe when a person playing putt-putt (mini golf) gets a hole-in-one we can start calling it a baby ace?
There are other examples where someone or something is called an ace. There is the serving ace in tennis and the flying ace in air combat.
I didn't have any of those in mind when choosing the title of this post. Since I go by Ace on this blog and my wife gave birth this past November, I decided that Baby Ace fits just right as the nickname for our baby boy.
I probably could have written a bit sooner about this whole experience, but I wasn't sure from what angle to approach the subject. For the first few weeks, Baby Ace wasn't doing much. But now, we are at a point where he can hold up his head, react to different sounds/movements, and grab things with his little hands (and toes sometimes).
This past weekend, turned over onto his tummy and figured out a way to release his hand that on previous attempts always got stuck underneath him. I found his accomplishment to be pretty impressive. Both the wife and I gave him a hearty round of applause as he lay there probably thinking - crawling is next!

Thank you, S.I.!
DeleteBaby Ace is so cute!
ReplyDeleteAgree, we like him :)
DeleteCongrats! As you have already found out, life changes profoundly when the first child arrives. You will be fascinated watching the day-to-day changes. And as you might have found out the hard way, proper placement of the diaper is particularly important when in the process of changing a boy. 😄
ReplyDeleteThank you, you are correct on the diaper placement haha. He has pulled a fast one on me numerous times.
DeleteOnce upon a time there were 3 Aces...Papa Ace, Mama Ace and Baby Ace. I don't know how the story will end...but it's off to a great start. Congrats.

Thank you, sir. If we have another one, would he go by Baby Deuce? Haha, that could definitely be taken out of context!
