DC Getting a New Poker Room!

That's right, you heard it here first.  The Washington DC metro area will be getting a brand new poker room!

I played a 4 hour session today at the MGM National Harbor poker room and got the news straight from the horse's mouth.  In this case, the metaphorical horse was a dealer.  It would be irrational for him to make up a story like this.  You might say, "Ace, are you sure you heard it right?"  I'm here to tell you that I was in seat 1 and heard all that was said.

You might ask, "And where will this new poker room be?"  The answer: the room will be one floor above the current MGM National Harbor poker room.  The current poker room is going away.  How could a very busy, 39 table, poker room that is considered the cream of the crop in the DC metro area be going away?

The main reason is to add more tables.  The new MGM poker room will have around 60 tables, making it the biggest poker room in the area.

This is great news.  And on top of all that, it will be away from the annoying and loud slot machines that are right next to the current room.

    1. Yeap, I sometimes wear earphones without listening to any music just to tune them out.

  2. Agree about the slots annoyance. The only thing I question is whether tourists will continue to come in from the casino area as they do now. Just the other night, I saw a drunk stumble to the table as well as group of middle eastern guys who could barely speak English, let alone know how to play hold'em.

    1. That is true, I didn't think of that. Also, yesterday they played some annoying commercial over the intercom at a very high volume. On the other hand, they probably lost some players when the waiting lists got long on the weekends.

    2. I don't get why they play those commercials. That's new since I got back from my 2 week vacation... VERY VERY LOUD - about gambler's anonymous & MGM player's club... boring stuff.

    3. This location is going to be worse than the old "attic" room at Charles town. I assume you'll get to it by the lobby escalators? It's going to be VERY isolated.

    4. I think so, unless they install an elevator/stairs connecting it to the casino floor.

  3. Dang - must be nice to have one or more decent poker rooms in the area. I still have to go almost 100 miles just to get to a small room.

    1. That sucks. Few years ago it was 60 miles for us.
